Teachers Needed in Saitama, Japan

Location: , Japan

Job Description: Sunny-Side Up! Free Style--English Immersion Preschool California native--Stanford grad seeks one special teacher. Should be out-going and able to connect well with children on a deep level. *Qualifications: BA/BS. Experience with 2 - 5 year olds as well as elementary aged kids preferred; experience in managing large groups a plus. More than one-year commitment highly desired. Looking for energetic, independent, kind and diplomatic individuals. Experience in day care and/or elementary school, as well as summer camps preferred. Experience in alternative education a plus! Restaurant experience also a boon. *Salary: JPY250,000~280,000 /month (two hundred fifty to two hundred eighty thousand yen per month depending on experience).

Job Details: Start Date: July 1. * 35 hours per week: M-F Preschool/Kindergarten (9-2); Friday Adult Class (7-8:30), Saturday (9-5) * Nuts and Bolts: Visa Sponsorship; apartment key money, phone and internet paid; personal assistance as needed! * Sick Leave: 10 days per year *Vacation: All national holidays paid, as well as three weeks paid vacation. (possibly at Christmas, Spring break and/or August). There is a possibility of taking extra unpaid leave during some of the spring/summer/winter vacation times. *Staff: currently we have 2 Full- time Teachers + 2 Full Time Assistants + 1 Director. Background of Sunny-Side Up! I have a small English school (60 students), which I started in 1990 in our family home. In November 2000, we moved out and it became solely a school. In April 2001, I started the English Immersion Preschool/Kindergarten with 7 students. We now generally have about 30 students, less in April and a little more in January. We accept students throughout the year and prefer them to enter just around 2 years old. We do not "teach" the children, but rather surround them with English and continually talk to them in English as we play. We do free-style arts and crafts: explore science experiments; experience food and cooking; feed the goat, rabbits, chickens, ducks and turkeys; and perform other daily activities (wash hands, eat lunch, brush teeth, etc.). The children are extremely outgoing and very friendly-certainly compared to other Japanese children, but also compared to American children. The veteran preschool/kindergarten children all speak English now and the new entering kids quickly acquire language skills and soon stop speaking Japanese. This is a fascinating environment in which to observe language acquisition. Actually, this is a job you will never forget. The work is hard, but incredibly rewarding. This is not your typical "eikaiwa" job where you see little progress in your students apathetic or enthusiastic, regardless!). This is a chance to really get to know your students on a personal level. These kids will touch your hearts! Working Environment If you have ever worked in a busy bar or restaurant, then you will feel right at home at SSU! It is chaotic, loud, high energy, fun, crazy-but really satisfying at the end of the day. You will also need to project your voice and be loud yourself. You need to be able to work under pressure or in stressful situations (crying kid in your arms, need to keep your humor to deal with a crazy 4 year old standing on the table and in the meantime it's time to move your group outside). You need to have a lot of energy to meet and harness the energy of the kids and you need to keep your cool while multi- tasking. But on the other hand, the kids will love you unconditionally if you show them your real heart and they will jump in your arms shouting, "I love you!" You will see reserved kids come out of their shells before your eyes and you will see their real beings shine out from their faces. This is truly amazing. Living Situation The teacher will live in a furnished 3LDK small house two 6-mat rooms and one 4. 5-mat room plus dining/kitchen and of course bath and toilet) near the school. My husband is a natural farmer (organic, but no animal fertilizers), so along with the eggs, there will perhaps be vegetables available (when my husband has time to pick!). We are located in Kamikawa-machi, on the edge of Saitama prefecture near Gunma prefecture--accessible to Tokyo by car or train (2 hours). As this is the country, it is hard to get along without a car, so I provide one for the teacherÌs private use, but the teachers pay for the monthly expenses. Currently, SES maintains offices in four cities in Yamaguchi Prefecture, with the main office located in Shunan. In addition to classes taught at these offices, SES offers courses in classrooms in high schools, colleges, corporate offices, community centers and private homes throughout the area. SES also provides translation services to clients. The staff at SES is a team of native English speakers and English-speaking Japanese teachers.
